If you know any youth age 6 to 17 who has lost a family member… let them know about “Camp Courage”. This is a summer weekend camp to help kids who have experienced the loss of a family member or friend. The camp date is June 12-14 at the Goodwill Camp near South Sioux City, NE.
Camp Courage offers young people a supportive environment in which they can gain an understanding of grief and loss with peers going through similar experiences. They learn healthy ways to cope w…ith their grief through a variety of activities, crafts, music, and games. Camp Courage balances grief programming with recreational activities such as swimming, hiking and sports so children feel free to have fun and just be kids, all part of the healing process. “Camp Courage normalizes the experience of death and grief for kids. It is one place kids can go where everyone has experienced a loss- they can talk or draw about their loss and it is okay” says Jane Metz, a Volunteer Coordinator with Hospice of Siouxland. “It also helps their families deal with their grief together as they show off their projects and are able to talk about them.”
Pre-registration is required as camp size is limited. For more information or for a registration packet, please call John at 712-233-4144 or 800-383-4545.
